Malaysia Pavilion @ Expo Zaragoza 2008
Spain
Expo Zaragoza 2008 wants its visitors to have an unforgettable experience by creating new types of thematic exposition open to all cultures. The goal is to have each participant to reflect, share experience and provide creative solutions as regards to the theme of "Water and Sustainable Development".
Tropical Malaysia has always been associated with plenty of surface water, which is reflected in different types of wetland, in turn has sustained the biodiversity and the livelihood of the nation. With its participation in the Expo, Malaysia has come into the limelight with its concept of sustainability of the wetlands, unique to the nation. Pico brought forward three concepts for this expo which are the mangroves; wetland (natural and man-made) and Putrajaya – City in the Garden.
Our interpretive façade shows the soil of the wetlands, its vegetation and even the water in an iconic manner. Visitors enter the pavilion via a glass tunnel with water droplets splatter on a glass roof before proceeding into a sectional slice of the replicated mangrove ecosystem. Interactive area like the Fireflies zone is created to stimulate the senses including a cross section of the Tasik Bera freshwater wetland from the river to the lowland forest. Large format projection is used in the Putrajaya area to describe the enormity of this development.
